The Kalki dham is being constructed in the Sambhal Village of Uttar Pradesh by the temple Nirman Trust for which PM Narendra Modi laid the foundation today, 19 february, 2024. To understand the significance of the temple first let’s learn who is Lord Kalki.
Kalki Avatar – Kalki is the prophesied tenth and final incarnation of the god Vishnu. He is described to appear in order to end the Kali Yuga, one of the four periods in the endless cycle of existence (Krita) in Vaishnava cosmology. Kalki is described in the Puranas as the avatar who rejuvenates existence by ending the darkest and destructive period to remove adharma (unrighteousness) and ushering in the Satya Yuga, while riding a white horse with a fiery sword.
The born of Kalki Avatar – In the Kalki Purana, Kalki is born into the family of Vishnuyashas and Sumati, in a village called Shambala, (the one where the dham is being constructed) on the thirteenth day during the fortnight of the waxing moon. In the Cyclic Concept Of Time (Puranic Kalpa), Kali Yuga is estimated to last 432,000 years, and we are only 5,000 years into kali yuga. Isn’t it too soon to build a temple for the incarnation of a deity who is not borned yet? Well that’s the speciality of this ‘Dham’. It is one of the first known dham to be built before the incarnation of the lord.
Temple construction details – This temple will be spread across five acres, and the temple is expected to take around five years for completion. There will be many common things between this temple, Ayodhya Ram Mandir, and Somnath Temple: pink-coloured stone, similar architectural ‘shaili,’ and exclusion of steel or iron frames. ‘Shikhara’ of the temple will reach a height of 108 ft, with the platform elevated 11 ft above the ground. As per the records, a total of 68 pilgrimage sites will be established within the temple premises.
Idol creation – Kalki Peeth will remain in its original place, but a new idol of Lord Kalki will be crafted.Details from scriptures will serve as a guide for the idol creation, including a white horse named ‘Devdutt’ from Lord Shiva, a sword from Lord Parshuram, and education from Lord Brihaspati.
Did you know there have been many people who have claimed themselves to be the Kalki avatar!
